Here's how we made it.

Where the Idea Came From

Last summer at a local horse show, we noticed a rider in a faded navy t-shirt. On it was an old American flag graphic, washed soft from years of wear. She told us it was her lucky shirt—she'd worn it to every show for four summers. It had holes at the collar and the print was cracking, but she couldn't find anything to replace it.

That got us thinking. Not just about the flag, but about what that shirt meant to her. It was comfortable. It felt like hers. And every time she wore it, she was showing a little bit of pride—not in a loud way, just in a quiet, personal way.

We wanted to make something similar. Something that felt American without waving a giant flag in your face.

The Design

We started by looking at classic American symbols—stars, stripes, the horse. The horse was a given. The stars and stripes gave it that patriotic feel without being too literal.

The logo went through about ten versions. Some had too many stars. Some had the horse facing the wrong direction. One version had the stripes running horizontally, which looked fine on paper but didn't scale well to the garment. We kept going until we landed on the one you see now: a clean horse silhouette with a single star accent, and a stripe element running through it like a subtle nod to the flag.

The navy base was an easy choice. It's the color of the flag's canton—practical, hides dirt, pairs with jeans or breeches. The white and red of the star stripe graphic stand out nicely against it without being overwhelming.

The Fabric and Making

We tested several fabrics before choosing a 210g/m² cotton-polyester blend. Lightweight, breathable, holds the print well.

We start with a paper pattern, cut a sample, check the fit. Usually two or three tries before we're happy. The logo is applied with heat transfer for better detail and durability. We inspect each piece before and after printing. After sewing, every top goes through a final check—no loose threads, print aligned, zipper works. Then it's folded and packaged.
